About Compounding Explained

Compounding Explained is the regulatory reference of the FormBlends network: how compounded GLP-1s and peptides are regulated in the United States, what changed when the shortages ended, how to verify the pharmacy and the prescriber behind an offer, and how to read the documents you are handed.

What the site is

Sixteen pages and one tool. The explainers cover sections 503A and 503B, the essentially-a-copy rule, the shortage timeline, what compounders may do now, certificates of analysis, the PCAC and bulks lists, salt forms and research-use labelling, who inspects a pharmacy, and how to report a problem. The state boards section links all 50 boards and DC (each URL checked on the date shown) and explains how to run a licence lookup for a pharmacy and a prescriber. The timeline section is the FDA enforcement record with dates and links, plus the counterfeit alerts. The tool turns ten answers about an offer into a printable checklist of what to verify and where.

Who runs it

The site is written and maintained by the FormBlends editorial team, which also publishes formblends.com. FormBlends operates a GLP-1 weight-loss program that dispenses compounded medication through licensed 503A pharmacies. That is a commercial interest in the subject of this site, and it is disclosed here, on the medical disclaimer, on the hub, and wherever a page links to a FormBlends property. FormBlends' own account of how it meets the requirements described here is on its regulatory status page. We think the right way to read that page is with this site's questions in hand.

Where the facts come from

• Every date is taken from an FDA page, an FDA declaratory order, an FDA warning letter, a Federal Register notice, or a state board site. The link and the date we checked it are in the sources list at the foot of each page.
• Where FDA has not stated something, we say so. The PCAC page, for example, reports what FDA's meeting page shows and separately notes what the trade press has reported and that we could not confirm it on an FDA page.
• Companies are named only as FDA names them in a published document, and we repeat only FDA's characterisation.
• State board links are requested by script on the date shown and the response recorded; boards that block automated requests are marked and checked in a browser.
• Compounded drugs are described as what they are throughout: not FDA approved, not interchangeable with brand products, dispensed on a prescription under an exemption.

What the site refuses to do

• Rate, rank or recommend pharmacies or programs. The checklist tool lists things to verify; it does not score them.
• Publish reviews, testimonials, star ratings, named clinicians or claims of medical review that did not happen.
• Give medical or legal advice. Whether a compounded product is right for you is a decision for you and a licensed prescriber; whether a particular arrangement is lawful is a question for a lawyer.
• State a number it cannot source.

Updates

Regulatory pages go stale. Each page carries an updated date, and when FDA changes a "content current as of" date on a page we rely on, we re-read it and move ours. The shortage and enforcement pages are re-checked first.
